The Process of Prepositions Acquisition in Children of Age Groups A

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: From the perspective of a radial network, a central concept acts as a semantic core, and other related concepts branch out radially from this core. To date, no research has been conducted in this field. The aim of the present study is to analyze the process of learning prepositions (from, to, and with) in children"s speech based on the radial network approach.
METHODOLOGY: This research is based on Bruner"s (1995) theory of development and employs a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through random sampling from 40 children aged 2 to 5 years from two kindergartens in District 2 of Tehran. By analyzing children"s speech, the study attempts to identify and analyze the radial network of prepositions in these age groups.
FINDINGS: Children first learn the prototype meaning of these letters and mainly use a simple radial network to express meanings. Children initially use the preposition "to" more to refer to the target, and as they grow, their radial network becomes more complex. These findings are consistent with Bruner"s theory of language development and emphasize the importance of visual and symbolic representations in language learning.
CONCLUSION: The language acquisition process of children is influenced by various factors such as the complexity of syntactic structures, the child"s cognitive needs, and the linguistic environment. Insufficient development of children"s grammatical and cognitive systems, the syntactic complexity of sentences containing prepositions, and the limitations of the linguistic environment are factors that cause limited use of prepositions in the speech of two-year-old children. Analysis of prepositions based on the radial network model also confirms this result. The results of this study can help to understand the language learning process in children more deeply and design more effective educational programs.
